This article will go through the best practices for resizing images and videos to use for digital signage.
Table of contents:
Step 1: Refer to our image and video resizing recommendations
The first step for setting yourself up for great digital signage is to ensure your content is properly sized to display best on screen. Images and video sizing we recommend you adjust accordingly for a 16:9 screen ratio, which is relatively standard and supported by most TVs.

Step 2: Review our zone layout guide
The next step is determining what zone layouts you'd like to use for digital signage. ScreenCloud provides you with powerful and simple tools for displaying content simultaneously. Simply display notices and updates right alongside a weather app, world clock, social media updates, or any other content you'd see fit.
The tricky part with zone layouts is to be proactive and mindful of trying to fit images and videos into smaller spaces. The more zone layouts you create, the less space you're able to work with the per zone as the entire screen is no longer filled with one piece of content, app, or playlist.
We recommend an optimal experience by reviewing our custom zone layout guide here. This will provide you with steps on how to access the zone layout feature (if your device supports it), how to use our pre-set layouts, and how to even create your own custom zones.
Please note, we are unable to provide you with exact dimension sizing for images and videos with custom zone layouts. Each zone layout scenario is unique and would require you to assess the proper dimensions needed for custom layouts you create for digital signage. We can do our best to assist here but may be limited to the resources available in helping you achieve the perfect sizing for your custom zones.
Step 3: Use editing tools to properly resize your content
Lastly, you can adjust your images and videos based on the dimensions we recommend for optimal digital signage. We understand that you may not have the native software available or experience to resize videos, and we have a few solutions here for you.
Please note to be mindful of sources in which you download programs from if you decide to use any tools natively on your computer. Some websites can have forms of malware or spam that are attached to files you're downloading to your computer. We recommend using a free security website scanner such as Norton, or related tools, by copying and pasting the URL into this service to run a report on any website.
i) Google search resources: For images, begin a Google search for "Free image resizing tools". You will come across a range of resources that do not require any downloading. You can upload any image into these services and resize exactly according to the dimensions we provide. Then, save and download the image for use in ScreenCloud.
For videos, begin a Google search for "Free video resizing tools". You will come across a range of resources that do not require any downloading or more robust options will require a download to your computer. You can upload any video into these services and resize exactly according to the dimensions we provide. Then, save and download the video for use in ScreenCloud.
ii) Search for free tools on your computer and/or smartphone app store: There are many free image and video resizing tools available via the app stores on either Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices. Access the app store for your device respectively and search for free programs available to use as a resizing tool.
Please note, most apps are verified in device stores (e.g. Windows Store, Apple Store, Chrome Store, Google Play, etc), though we recommend to check the ratings and read reviews on apps to assess the validity from user feedback in using these free services.
iii) Purchase image and/or video editing software: If you have the resources and budget to purchase yourself editing software, this is also a recommended option. There are plenty of popular image editing programs you can utilize, such as Adobe Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, CyberLink Photo Director, etc.
For video editing programs, some examples are Camtasia, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc. We recommend doing a general Google search for popular programs where you can explore features, pricing, and determine the best fit for your use case.
