Google’s New Autoplay Policy - How is this affecting you with ScreenCloud?

Hello and thank you for visiting our ScreenCloud Help Center. This article will go through Google's New Autoplay Policy and how this is affecting ScreenCloud Members.

Google’s recent update prevents Chrome playback video and audio files from playing until a user interacts with the domain (click, tap, etc.) For Digital Signage this means, your videos would not work until you plug in a mouse and click on the screen.   
 

All Chrome devices (Chromebit, Chromebox, Chromebook) with Chrome version 66 and above

Chrome extension on a Windows or a Mac

 

When was the update released?

Early in May 2018

 

What are we doing to help resolve this issue?

Weve pushed out a quick workaround which will mute uploaded videos. When the error occurs you may see your videos starting to work again but with no sound. While we’ve been exploring more permanent solutions, there is another alternative solution for the time being but will require some work from you.

 

Steps on how to change the AutoPlay Policy for Chromebit, Chromebox, Chromebase and Chromebook devices

Please Note: These steps work for Chromebit, Chromebox, Chromebase and Chromebook devices with or without a Chrome Device Management License or those without Kiosk Mode activated.

You can change the Autoplay policy on the device following these steps below:
 
First, you have to Reboot the device in order to access this setting.
 
1. Upon startup pressing Ctrl+Alt+
2. Logging in
3. Opening a Chrome browser and typing: chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy
4. Changing the "Autoplay policy" from "Default" to "No user gesture is required"
5. Pressing "relaunch"
6. Rebooting the device
