How-To Set Up ScreenCloud on a Chromebit in Kiosk Mode (Device Older Than 2017)

by Nor Kanjanahattakij

Hello and thank you for visiting our ScreenCloud Help Center. This article will go through How-to Set up ScreenCloud on a Chromebit in Kiosk Mode (device older than 2017).

Please Note: Google has recently made a change which will mean that new Chrome OS devices will not support stand-alone kiosk mode. If you require kiosk mode, you will need a Chrome Device Management (CDM) license. Without this, you will not see the option to use kiosk mode on your device. If you need a CDM license you can purchase this through our partner Promevo.

We recommend you purchase the Enterprise License, this specific license allows you to exit Kiosk mode if ever needed, please let us know if you have any questions about this by emailing

If you have newer Chrome devices or have problems setting up the kiosk mode, please refer to this page for more information.

For Chrome devices older than 2017, setting up a Chromebit for the first time? Go to Step 7

For this process, you will need to attach a Bluetooth or Wired Keyboard and Mouse.

If you have used the Chromebit prior to this set up you will need to return the Chromebit to its original (factory) state, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the Chromebit by removing the power cord.

2. Push a paperclip (or pushpin) into the recovery buttonhole (red circle in the image below) while reattaching the power cord (to turn on the device).

This is what you should see on the screen:

3. Press Ctrl + D on the keyboard to enter the Developer Mode.

This is what you’d see on the screen:

4. Once again, push a paperclip (or pushpin) into the recovery button hole once. The device reboots and displays a red exclamation point.

Do not press SPACE but go to the next step!

5. Press Ctrl + D on your keyboard. The Chromebit reboots and starts the transition to Developer Mode. This clears all local data, a process that takes approximately 10 minutes.

- Followed by this screen below. Wait until the loading bar at the top reaches 100% (This process will take up to 5 minutes):

6. At the startup screen, press the Spacebar, and then press Enter to reboot the device and return to verified mode.

- Press your Spacebar

- Press Enter

If Forced re-enrollment is enabled for the device, you'll see a note that Developer Mode is blocked. This shortens the wipe process, and still allows for re-enrollment when the device automatically reboots into verified mode.

If you're using a managed Chromebox for your school or business, follow these steps to enroll the device.
